The TV is 10 yrs old and has no special HD or flat screen or any of that. It’s an RCA, the coaxial is rigged in with some glue, but hasn’t been right since, it gets blurry or lined sometimes and we have to jiggle the cord or whack the top of TV, what would be the approx. cost of a professional repair???
you might just have to replace the female coaxial jack in the back.. on some of the older set its easy to get too take the back off and you see its kinda just screwed on there and they the lil tip is sodered on (yeah i think i spelled that wrong) but any way. its just your jack so if you got the right tools it would just be easier to do it yourself..hell its in older set it worth looking back there to see. before you send it off.. cuz when you send it in your paying for the parts.. which are cheap.. and labor which is not… and most places charge labor by size of the tv.

I’m sure the reason this pulled out it you found that wiggling it would straighten out the snowy reception or the vertical jumping. That vintage of RCA had a problem with the ground connections around an in the tuner, and giggling the RF connector was a temporary fix. RCA has come up with an upgrade that any RCA repair facility can do, as will as reinstall a new fitting. Costs should be in the range of $75 – $100. There are two other symptoms that may show up: 1) loose sound, and 2) go dead. These are caused by spikes on the data lines when you wiggle the fitting and they damage the information in the memory chip (EEPROM). Mose of the time we recommend using a VCR as the tuner and come in through AUX 1 (RCA cables) and forget the TVs tuner altogether. Quit wiggling it or pay extra for the EEPROM repair too. If you are versed in soldering remove the bottom tuner shield and resolder all the grounds in and around the tuner, this should fix it for a couple years and carefully solder the fitting back in place. Don’t over heat the fitting or you will melt the plastic in the fitting (i leave the coax attached to help dissipate the heat). If this is too much for your expertize then don’t try it, use a VCR instead and change channels using the VCR.
