If you use your name as a business name you don’t need to file for it (I.E. John Smith Enterprises) but if you want a separate business name you need to file for a fictitious business name (small fee and filling out some forms from a courthouse). If you don’t file for the name then down the line anyone can file the same name and force you to stop using it (he who files first has legal rights to it).

As for a logo, that’s 100% up to you. You don’t have to register the design but if you think you might end up very big then you could file for a trademark (less than 15% of businesses file).

EDIT: A Hunch is wrong. It’s not illegal but as I said you can loose the rights to the name if someone else takes it. And it’s state to state. Trust me there are hundreds of Peking Palace restaurants across the U.S. and none of them are related to one another.

Business licenses are controlled by the different cities in California. In my city, all businesses have to be licensed. In the neighboring city even some store locations don’t need to be licensed.

As far i understand you want to backup your computer. Once you have your windows recovery disks and installation disks you dont need to backup Windows registry because in any case you can recover your windows or reinstall them. You need to apply a backup strategy to protect your digital property such as photos, documents, music etc.

Best solution is to data backup with a safe backup software. I backup photos, backup documents to the cloud because i dont trust the external hard disks anymore. Hard disks can crash so unexpectedly and lose all your data.

There is limited understanding of how firewalls and anti-virus work and if you just use the default settings they work fine, but if you spend some time learning how to configure them they can be pretty transparent and place a limited load on the system.
If you are really concerned and have inexperienced people or kids using it, make sure they use a guest account which has limited permissions as far as changing the system or installing programs and set the security levels in internet explorer to high.

There has been so much fear mongering spread around about registry errors and problems you have to ask yourself, why hasn’t Microsoft created a tool to "fix" the registry? YOU DON’T NEED IT!
The registry is extremely stable considering and has internal repair abilities, mostly due to redundancy and a high level of error tolerance. The tools that are provided, disk cleanup and defragmenting work fine when used regularly as maintenance tools.

Performance is all about keeping resource usage to a minimum. Get familiar with the task manager and what processes are running,
